Nevada Nonprofits
Issues like training the jobless, protecting abused animals, and clothing impoverished children are of great concern to Nevada’s nonprofits. Below are three examples of Nevada-based nonprofits focused on these issues with excellent track records for serving their communities.
Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow
Finding a job can prove difficult for those without the resources to finish their schooling or who struggled to complete school. The Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow (FIT) offers training sessions that assist individuals with reading and math skills as well as technical skills like computer literacy. Those who seek FIT’s help can attend its sessions for free, receive assistance from its counselors in finding jobs that suit them, and get help connecting with local businesses with available jobs.
L.E.A.N. – Local Equine Assistance Network
Founded in 2012, L.E.A.N. works to protect the horses and donkeys in Nevada that have nowhere to go and nobody to care for them. Through its affiliation with All Vegas Horses, L.E.A.N. isn’t a typical shelter. Instead, it’s a network of concerned horse lovers who find temporary housing for abused or neglected horses where they can receive care and time to heal. As of February 2022, L.E.A.N. had rescued more than 80 horses and donkeys from dangerous conditions and found “forever” homes for about three-quarters of those animals.
Goodie Two Shoes Foundation
While shoes play a crucial role in protecting feet from hazards and weather, they’re often quite expensive. The Goodie Two Shoes Foundation supplies children in poverty and/or crisis with new shoes as well as other essential items to help comfort them in times of need. This nonprofit collects these donated items from concerned citizens, companies, and other partner organizations. Through its fundraising programs, donations of quality footwear and clothing, and sponsorships from companies and businesses around the state, the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation helps to ensure children in Nevada have a sturdy pair of shoes to carry them forward.
